Hello IPL 2018!

The fancy props, drum rolls, star studded Bollywood performances, more than a hundred supporting artists and a whopping audience share marked the opening ceremony of the much-awaited IPL season 2018 at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, the same venue that hosted last year’s IPL final. The current eleventh season of the Indian Premiere League, also known as IPL 11, scheduled from 7 April to 27 may 2018 kicked off with mesmerising performances from top Bollywood stars and a musical extravaganza from Mika Singh that kept the audience going. The two-and-a-half-hour long glittering opening ceremony saw a starry line-up with Bollywood biggies like Hrithik Roshan, Varun Dhawan, Jacquelin Fernandez, Prabhu Deva, Tamannah Bhatia gracing the stage with some of their popular hits and Mika Singh singing his latest chartbusters provided a cricketing and entertainment spectacle no different than the previous seasons.

Along with other Bollywood stars this year, Ranveer Singh was also expected to entertain the cricket fans at Wankhade and around the globe with his performance. However, a shoulder injury a week before forced him to withdraw from the event. Like Ranveer Singh, Parineeti Chopra too was scheduled to perform at this year’s IPL opening ceremony. However, owing to her pre-committed endorsement commitments and non-stop shooting schedule made her withdraw from performing in front of the live audience.

The IPL season 11 also saw the return of the Chennai Super Kings and the Rajasthan Royals after serving two years of suspension for the involvement of their respective owners in the 2013 IPL betting case.

The season, that will last for 51 days, have the teams play a total of 60 matches across nine venues in IPL 2018.
