There seems to be no stop punctuation for the Syrian war. The events have been taking place but little does anyone write about it when it comes to Indian Media. It’s good to have an insight on other worldly issues as well.
A suspected Chemical attack has been cited in Douma, which is a major city of the region Ghouta in Syria. Douma witnessed several demonstrations against the Syrian government. It’s estimated that at least 70 people have been killed in this attack. This accusation has been termed as “fabrication” by the Syrian government. The US state department said reports implied “a potentially high number of casualties”, including families in shelters.
It stated about Russia that Russia – with its “unwavering support” for Syria’s government – “ultimately bears responsibility” for the alleged attacks. “The regime’s history of using chemical weapons against its own people is not in dispute,” it said in a statement.
About the Attack:
The speculations regarding the figures and the particulars of the attack seems to give a heterogeneous account of what occurred. “Seventy people suffocated to death and hundreds are still suffocating,” said Raed al-Saleh, head of the White Helmets.
The pro-opposition Ghouta Media Center stated that more than 75 people suffered and were “suffocated”, while a further 1,000 people had experienced the after effects of the alleged attack. It pointed that a barrel bomb containing a toxic nerve agent named Sarin has been reportedly dropped by a helicopter.
The Union of Medical Relief Organizations, a US-based charity that works with Syrian hospitals, told the BBC that the Damascus Rural Specialty Hospital had confirmed 70 deaths. It has been reported by a spokeswoman that the expected casualties is around 180. She said that the people were reported to have been treated for symptoms inclusive of convulsions and foaming of the mouth, consistent with nerve or mixed nerve and chlorine gas hazard. The overnight curtain fire that continued even the following day made a no-way situation for the volunteer and the required help to reach out to the victims.
As the allegations cropped up, Syria’s state news agency Sana said the reports were created by the Jaish al-Islam insurgents who remain in control in Douma.
“Jaish al-Islam terrorists are in a state of collapse and their media outlets are [making] chemical attack fabrications in an exposed and failed attempt to obstruct advances by the Syrian Arab army,” Sana said. It’s tough to find out the responsible group behind this, there may be some latent masks involved in it.
But more concern is about those innocent who are getting killed for no fault of theirs.
